General Discussion / Printing trracks
June 22, 2010, 07:26:23 AM
Hi,

I've got several tracks made with Terrain Navigator that I need to print and modify which I can't seem to do as well as I would like with TN. Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to print just the tracks (after adding comments) without the underlying map?

Thanks,

Ray

Hi Dan,

Just read your email. To create a smaller section, do I have to  create files incorporating all of the data, gnis, nhd, etc, and only one .mp file from the dem folder?

Thanks,  Ray

Bummer. Looks like it won't.

I'd like to thank those who answered my queries and especially those who put together the highly detailed instructions I used to build the topo. I really appreciated their work.

Map Making Support / virtual memory problem
April 27, 2010, 03:36:36 PM
Hi,

I was trying to combine the data with GPSMapEdit when it flashed the following warnings (after file number 55 of 73): "Can't read file. The file probably does not fit virtual memory," and "Internal Error. Please report the error log to the developer."

Is there any way around this, or is my pc simply not able to process the data?

Thanks,

Ray

So what you're saying, if I understand you correctly, is that even if there are 6 shapefiles listed separately in the same .zip file, I can open just one .zip file and get them all?

Based on one of the emails, I opened each of the 6 files in this example in a separate folder and then processed them, since opening them in the same folder would have forced them to overwrite each other.

Good to know. I didn't know if the sections built on the data collected from the one before.

Thanks.

Thanks. It's taking days for dem2topo to finish making the mp files and I was getting anxious to move on to the next step.

Hi,

Sorry for all the newbie questions, but is it necessary to finish each part of the map making process before proceeding to the next? In other words, can I start part 3, Water Data, before finishing part 2, elevation data?

Thanks,  Ray

Thanks. I'll have to rename the files then since the same .zip forces them to write over the preceding files.

They're finally coming through now, starting 12 hours after my request.

I notice that there are 7-10 files in each email, each with the same ftp...zip, but with different shapefile numbers (example below).

HydrographySubBasin / 15020002Shapefile 8.3ftp://nhdftp.usgs.gov/NHD181416.zip
HydrographySubBasin / 15020010Shapefile 8.3ftp://nhdftp.usgs.gov/NHD181416.zip

Should I just download the last zip in the list and use it, or how should I handle them?

Thanks again,  Ray

Hi,

Does anyone know how long it takes to get the emails for the NHD Subbasins? There was a message after each of my requests telling me I would receive a notice by email as to where I could download the files, but after 9 hours I still haven't received any. I don't know if I should continue waiting or request them again.

Thanks,  Ray
