GPSr Units / Re: Need Advice for an Afghanistan GPS

Thank you for your service to our country.  Watch your six and get back home soon.
Hi Rick,

I have a Oregon 400t and have used it here in the slash pine woods of Florida with no deficit.  I have been under some heavier, green canopy fir short durations, and again, no problem.  Hope that others chime-in with their experiences.

Take care.

Guess that I'm out of luck, for now.  I couldn't find anything.

Thank you for that, Jimbob.  I'm on a Mac, so I will start looking to see if there are any equivalents to the software that you have recommended.

GPSr Units / Combine Tracks into One?
April 07, 2010, 10:22:25 AM
Hey all,

Hopefully I'll be able to succinctly explain myself without confusing everyone.  ;D

I have a gpx file of many tracks that comprise the Florida Trail.  When loaded in my Oregon 450t, the Track Manager displays them as it should.  At issue, is the shear number of tracks that the attached file holds.  Is there a way that:

a) I can make it into one set of tracks and name it as one file?  "Join Tracks" in Base Camp made a mess out of that.

b) Save those tracks as a map that I can turn on or off at my leisure?

TIA for any help.

Agree.  No real added benefit.  I was just thinking that the maps might access a little faster with the onboard memory versus the MicroSD.  I suspect that the difference wouldn't even be noticeable.

You'll have to check the airline with whom you're going to fly.  Many prohibit their operation once the aircraft doors close.

Good tutorial.  I was wondering if I could use the maps from here in the main memory of the Garmin, and move the ones delivered with my 400t on the MicroSD?

It is listed as one of the prohibited electronic devices aboard the aircraft, in the placard located in the seat pocket in front of you.
Well, I tried it again and it worked.  Very odd.
Hey Jimbob... Yes, I neglected to say that I selected the maps that I wanted to install.  I do get an  option for that.

Thanks.  I did as you suggested and still a no go.  I will try to clean out all of my maps on the GPSr, delete all programs on the Mac and start from scratch.  Will advise.

Thank you for the prompt reply, Boyd, but no good.  I installed Mapsource for Mac from the Garmin site first. Was I to do that, as an installer is included?  Also, I just went to a Windows box and installed Mapsource from Garmin, but the instal aborted because I did not have a previous version of the program installed.  I'm really stumped, now.  :-\

I'd like to start by saying thank you for the great data that this site provides.  I have downloaded the FL topo map (Mac version) to my Mac.  After unzipping it, I double click it to launch Map Manager.  "Florida Topo.gmapi" comes up as a map to install.  I click install, and the map is supposedly installed.  When I open my GPSr (60CS), there are no maps present.

Any thoughts?
