I loaded CN on my 450 and then renamed it and then followed with IL topo & My Trails, renaming each after loading them. I can turn them on/off independently. Working great at the moment.

Ok, I'll just clear the unit and start over, renaming the files as I load them on. Thanks for the help!

If this is the wrong thread to post this, I'm sorry. Feel free to have a mod move it.

I loaded City Navigator on my Oregon 450 and everything worked. I then downloaded and installed My Trails & an Illinois topo from here. Once I installed these on my unit, CN has "disappeared" from the unit under where I enable/disable the maps at.

Will reloading CN onto the unit fix this or am I starting a vicious circle because I need to rename a file or something?

Interesting - I am originally from St. Louis. My mother's family came from Southern Illinois (Marion).

I have two units. I have an older version of City Nav on my computer that's installed on my older gps. Will I need to uninstall the old version before I try installing my new copy?

No answers on Garmin so far but I got a response from a dealer and they said that authorized dealers get the "00" version. Also got an email from a Garmin rep stating that once I unlock the DVD that if it's not the latest, I'll be able to download the latest version for free. 

Ok, complete noob here. Vector based? Is there a mapping glossary somewhere? Mapping for dummies?

Seriously. I was thinking of being able to walk the area, mark waypoints for the poi's, etc. Then be able to print out maps for visitors to be able to find places fairly easy.

What "seems" to me as basic but I may be making it harder than it seems.

I'll look at the links and see if by reding them if it answers some of my questions.

I guess I'll start here. Please forgive me if I should have this in one of the subforums.

I'm new to this so please bare with me. I have an Oregon 450 that I'd like to use to make some maps of a couple of our local Boy Scout campgrounds.

Campsites, water, shelters, latrines, etc.

Where do I start? What extra programs/software is needed?

My mother-inlaw bought me City Navigator North America NT for Christmas. The version she got me is #010-11546-00 but Garmin's site shows #010-11546-50. I called Garmin and the person I spoke with wasn't sure of the difference.

Anyone have a clue?

Ok, thanks. As a noob, I figured I was doing something wrong

I tried to load Illinois topos back on, My Trails is gone from the list AND both listings of Illinois maps are back.


Ok, tried loading Illinois topo, Tenn topo & My Trails all at once. Now it shows on the map selection page :

1 listing of Tenn topos
2 listings of IL topos
2 listings of My Trails and
1 listing of Worldwide DEM Basemap


Is this happening because when I send to device, I'm sending it to the memory card and not the unit itself?

I loaded the Illinois topo on my Oregon 450 using Mapsource. When I go into the map setup, it's listed twice. One works and shows everything and one doesn't seem to show anything.

How do I fix this? How do I delete the "broken" one off my unit?

Update : I tried to load My Trails and now both Illinois topos are gone.     I have to be doing something wrong.

Ok, renamed card and copied the file to the card. Now to unhook the unit and see if it's there
