I have installed and working on my SD card My Trails, Wy Topo, and Tx Topo. The Montana 610 is safe from shipping back. As planned I downloaded Mapsource, downloaded the 3 maps in Mapsource, and installed the maps on an SD card. In the Montana with the SD card in it I had to do 2 things to see the topo maps. I had to see if the maps were in the SD Card and then enable the maps in the Montana. With the device in maps I also had to make the map view size in the Montana down to 3 miles or smaller to see the topos.

I never would have been able to be successful with all of this had it not been for gpsfiledepot. The forums, the tutorials, and the maps gave me the tools and knowledge to get this done. I also want to thank Boyd for always being so helpful, patient, and right. Again Gpsfiledepot in many ways is super and necessary. Thank you!

Before I send the new Montana 610 back, I think I'll try what Lloyd S did. I'll download Mapsource on another PC and download the gpsfiledepot topo maps in Mapsource. I then will load the maps in the Montana. Is this a good plan Boyd?

Why does my old Oregon 450 still work on the Basecamp etc updates in May? Seems to me that the software in the new Montana 610 is not working. I guess it doesn't matter as Garmin is the problem and really considering returning the new unit. Garmin is certainly not being straight forward or I and many others would have known about this problem before buying a new unit. Thanks again for your help!

Installed Map Trails, WyTopo, Co Topo, Ok Topo, and Tx Topo all gpsfiledepot maps from Basecamp to new Montana 610. They showed in the device but would not come up in Maps. I then took SD card out of old Oregon 450 and put it in the Montana with the same maps on it. When I went to maps the topo for Wy came up but shortly went away and disappeared. Garmin tech knows there are some problems but no answers or fixes. thank you

I took my 4g sdhc card out of etrex vista cx that was working and put the card in another new card reader/writer. I did not format the card as I thought I would download to the card by Mapinstall by garmin's erasing what maps were on the card and by installing a partial topo to the card in the reader/writer.

After putting the card back into the etrex, the etrex did shut down. I then went on and tried to format the card in both NTFS which is my system in windows 7 and FAT 32(default) which didn't work. I then CUT the card in the reader to delete data and was successful in formatting the card in FAT32 with nothing on it.

I now have the card back into the etrex and it is downloading the maps I originally had in there. I guess there is more than a card reader/writer problem with using reader/writer to download maps as Boyd suggested. thx

This card reader I have been using is new. It is USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader and is supposed to support SD/SDHC memory cards. I realize that it could still be bad so tell me what to get. "Seldom", do you know the parameters for your Thumb Drive or what to order. Thanks for all of you guys help. wl

Downloaded card in the GPSr with Co topo instead of external reader/writer. Takes alot more time which I knew. GPSr not only stayed on but was able to use Co topo in the GPSr finally! Could the USB card reader/writer be the problem? Would rather use card reader/writer for speed obviously.  thx wl

1.Do not know version of mapinstall. Maybe I don't actually have "mapinstall". BaseCamp version I have is 3.2.2. When the USB reader/ writer is connected with card in it. I rt click on device in Basecamp and then click on "Install Maps on Memory Card" which it does. 2. New Computer, downloaded BaseCamp a couple of weeks ago. 3. SanDisk is the brand card I have. 4. Don't know if hard drive is a Fat 32 or not. Under my computer the drive shows a designation of "T1106240WOD(C:)" with a file system of NTFS. 5. The 64mb card with the garmin partial maps that is still working in the GPSr was downloaded by me to the card from mapsource 4 or 5 years ago. thx wl

I reformatted the 4g card that shut down the GPSr and with it blank with nothing on it, it worked in the gps fine with no shutdown. wl

I followed your 9 items which I had already been doing. Co topo with mapinstall said I successfully loaded Co onto the card. Put card in GPSr and it immediately shut down and turned off. Reformatted card and then mapinstall said I was successful at loading Texas topo (which I had been able to use in the GPSr previously OK) but when put in the GPSr it now shut the handheld down immediately. I then put another card with garmin maps on it in the GPSr and it worked fine. I then put the card that shut the gps down back in the card reader/writer one more time and mapinstall said I was successful at downloading Texas topo again. Put card in GPSr and immediately shut down the gps. Could the 64 bite in this windows 7 be the problem even though I do have Map Trails loaded in BaseCamp? ths wl

Only 1 time did I combine all 3 topos into gmapsupp.img and it did not work. After that I put the topos separate from each other 1 at a time into gmapsupp.img and tried to load them only 1 at a time to the card. Only sucessful with Texas topo. I then deleted Co and Wy from Basecamp, downloaded Wy and Co to Basecamp again, but still could not get Wy or Co by themself to download so as to have only Co or wy on the card at 1 time. I repeated the delete from Basecamp etc again with same result. If I put the card with Co or Wy loaded on it in the Etrex it immediately shut down and turned off. At this point, I reloaded Texas separately with success and have now deleted Wy and Co from BaseCamp again. Yes, Wy and Co are both created by maps4gps, but do not appear to overlap each other. thx wl

As I originally said, first install to card I did combine all 3 maps in mapinstall prior to trying to get them to the card. After that I did try individually to install the maps one at a time and repeatedly the only one to install was Texas. thx wl

Downloaded Texas, Colorado, and Wyoming 2011 topo maps to basecamp. I formatted a new SDHC 4 gig micro card on a USB card reader/writer and tried to load the maps collectively to the card with mapinstall. At the finish of mapinstall, the message said that the installation was unsuccessful. I then reformatted the card and loaded them one at a time. the only map that would load was the Texas topo. I deleted the Colo and Wy from basecamp and downloaded them again in basecamp. I formatted the card each time prior to trying to load them separately. Neither Colo or Wy would load. What have I done wrong, or is Colo and Wy 2011 topos corrupt or something  wrong with them? I do have Texas 2011 topo currently on the 4 gig card in my Garmin Etrex Vista CX.  Thanks  wl
