Map Making Support / Re: NC Data

 The county I downloaded was 32 meg. I don't have anything to compare that to as far as creating contours. Thanks for the information.

Map Making Support / NC Data
December 13, 2009, 08:14:36 PM
I found this data at a NCGIS site, appears to be pre-made contour and elevation data for entire state.
If someone in the group with more experience than me would take a look at it might be useful.

I  recently updated this unit from Garmins web site. Part of the update was to allow maps greater than 2mb. I could not find any info on this. Could anyone explain this to me.
Thanks, Rick

Map Making Support / cgpsmapper warning
March 05, 2009, 08:36:43 PM
I hate to be a pest, I have asked this question before. When processing .MP files with cgpsmapper I kept getting this, "warning: element should not be 0". I have determined that the problem is with the tiger data since it doesn't happen with contours or water data. I've check about 2 dozen lines in the .MP file that show this warning, they all look similar to this.

[RGN40]
Type=Invisible Boundary
RegionName=37
Data0=(35.812706,-77.451753),(35.812428,-77.452888),(35.812396,-77.453021),(35.813033,-77.456329),(35.813254,-77.457477)
[END]

The line number in question appears in front of [END].
"Type=Invisible Boundary" is common in all lines in question
I'm using Globalmapper but I'm not following the tutorial exactly. Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong or how to correct this. Thanks in advance, Rick

Map Making Support / Re: GM contours
March 01, 2009, 01:22:54 PM
-OZ- The error I got was with postgis. I don't remember exactly, something about writing to a .dll, I posted it earlier under "postgis subject".

boyd - Thanks for the info, GM has turned out to be more complex than I first though it's going to take some time to figure it all out.

one more question: in cgpsmapper, what does this mean. "warning w024:element should not be 0"

Looks like I've gone as far as I can with making maps. I still haven't been able to install postgresql and postgis on my computer (vista). Thanks for the help.

Map Making Support / GM contours
February 27, 2009, 08:46:25 PM
Once GM completes contours how do I determine which are minor,intermediate or major? Or does it matter in the end product?

Also, how can I trim a map to get rid of overlapping data?

Map Making Support / Re: North Carolina
February 12, 2009, 07:17:05 PM
Hey I'm back, over the last few months I decided to play around with Globalmapper. I now have about 20 counties in the NE part of NC. I decided to break these up into 3 groups because of the differences in elevation (0 on the coast and 400 ft. in the western part). After completing each group I will combined them into one workspace and export to a MP file. Will this work out the way I expect it to, and if so can I add counties to the map later? Also, how large can these files get, one file is already over 500 mb.
