Map Making Support / Re: Making maps with postgis
January 22, 2010, 08:03:30 PM
Thanks, I have checked from time to time with the link to replies to my posts, but I missed this reply.  I did use this tutorial.  I am in Virginia.  A can convert some quads into MP files, but with others on Demo2 it says it is unable to allocate memory.  It seems related to the amount of elivation variations in a quad.  I have one quad successfully converted, but only one.  Thanfully it is the area I priamarily need.  I have another map on my GPS, but I am trying to get more detail here.  Can I go with just the elevation data in the step 9 cobining, and overlay that over my other map in the Garmin 60csx?

Map Making Support / Making maps with postgis
September 18, 2009, 07:36:53 PM
I have loaded the postgis programs in accordace with the tutorial, but I do not know where to go from there to make topo maps.  Are there any related tutorial on this site, or any other suggestions?

Thanks for the reply.

I removed the PostgreSQL program, and then reinstalled it after I got your reply.

I made sure to start the server and everything worked out fine.  Postgis is installed.

When I reinstalled PostgreSQL I could not proceed with the initiaize database box checked becasue it said a data base already existed at that location.  I did not know how to remove it, so I unchecked the box and then I moved forward without a problem.  If this will lead to problems down the road I would love to hear about that now.

Once again, Thanks!

I have installed 8.3.5 as suggested, and that seemed to work as far as the spatial extensions goes,
but now when attempting to start the instilation of postgis 1.3.5 for PostgreSQL  8.3 v 1.3.6 or v1.3.5 (the only two options under spatial extensions) I have an error that reads"

createdb: could not connect to database postgres: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061)
Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting
   TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

Creating template database...
ExecShell: open C:\DOCUME~1\MICHAE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\postgis_installer\create_templatepostgis_db_error.txt
Database creation failed.
Database creation failed.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I am trying to change the pg_hba.conf to trust pursuant to the tutorial "Installing & Setting Up PostgreSQL With PostGIS"

Using Windows XP there is not an option for to open pg_hba.conf using  (start>all programs>postgresql X.X>Configurations Files>Edit pg_hba.conf)

There is an option for "Reload Configuration" but not "Configuration Files"

I have found instructions for changing the configuration that state
"You can use the pg_hba.conf editor that is built into pgAdmin III to edit the pg_hba.conf configuration file." but I have not been able to determine how to access the pg_hba.conf editor in pgAdmin III

Becasue of the Topo Process Program (BETA!) posting:
      "Possible bug:
      - May not work with password protected postgresql databases"

I would like to know how I can remove the passoword protection in PostgreSQL 8.4

I am trying to intall PostGIS, but there is no "Spatial Extensions"  option in stackbuilder 2.1.0 for PostgreSQL 8.4

The optins in stackbuilder are as follows
Catagories

    Add -Ons
    Database drivers
     Web Applications
     Web Development

I am referring to the tutorial Installing & Setting Up PostgreSQL With PostGIS
I have stopped at PostGIS 4.
What can I do to install PostGIS?

I am processing Dem2topo mp files and I get an error message "Unable to allocate memory: to make array - Processing stopped"

I have downloaded files using the 250MP maximum setting in the tutorial, and my files for Virginia are in the 232mb range.

What can I do to overcome this error?
