I accidently deleted the basemap from my Oregon 550 while doing some maintenance. I already put CN 2011 back on from the DVD but it didn't reinstall the basemap to the device. Is there anyway I can get the basemap from somewhere?

Thanks in advance

So what your saying is a can put the maps onto my GPSr one at a time and they won't overwrite each other as long as I change the name of the mapset?

What is the best scale distance to set for the TOPO map?

Thanks

Thank you very much. I have an 8GB SD card in it as well so fitting the maps shouldn't be a problem. If I have the TOPO 100K and the TOPO 24K  from here on it at the same time do I have to disable the 100K to use the 24K? Should I always keep the DEM base map enabled?

Thanks everybody!

GPSr Units / Question about Maps on the Oregon 550
November 06, 2011, 07:52:49 AM
I have some questions that hopefully somebody can give me some insight on. I have an Garmin Oregon 550. I have the DVD TOPO U.S. 100K from Garmin which is the reason why I bought the 550 and not the 550T. I also have City Navigator for it. I was wondering if I could put the maps on the unit seperately or do I have to do them together. If I do them seperately will one just write over the old one..

And if I have to do them together with Mapsource will they show up seperately on my GPS so I can disable CN and just use TOPO when I'm hiking?

Then if I download a NE TOPO map from this site with a 24K scale can I just add it to my GPS or will it overwrite the others or do I have to do ALL of them together again. Hope not!

I know its a few questions but loading maps on my GPS takes awhile and I don't want to find out the hard way that I have to do them ALL together.

Thanks in advance.

I thank you all for your input. I guess it comes down to personal preference. I have a geocaching friend with an Oregon so I'll try and borrow it for some geocaching excursions and see if I like it. I'm really in no hurry to get a new GPS and I'm putting money aside weekly for when I make a decision so $50 is not really an issue as far as the Oregon 550 vs the new Magellan. I will have to  check out the reviews of the new Magellans now. LOL!

Thanks again everyone

WOW! Just got done reading your reviews of the 450 from your site and it is extremely informative. Great info! I will definitely like to read yours of the 62. The touch screen definitely has its disadvantages.

Thanks for the feedback. I love my Csx but hate the fact that its not paperless. I go through alot of paper and ink with the printouts and was looking into paperless units. I was also looking at the 62 but haven't heard enough feedback from them yet. I take it your having some problems with yours? I'll check out your review when you post it. I really don't want to get a PDA or the like just for geocaching to go along with the 60Csx. I'll have to read your reviews of the 450 on your site. In your opinion what is the best paperless unit?

GPSr Units / Difference between the Oregon 450 and 550?
January 19, 2011, 08:52:43 PM
I really don't see any difference between them besides a camera and cosmetics. I'm going to be upgrading from my 60Csx soon and was just wondering. Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Question about Topo maps?

What scale are the Topo maps on here made to 100K or 24K? I can't seem to find any info about them on this site. Thanks in advance.
