October 24, 2011, 05:44:12 PM
Just downloaded the WI Topo with Basecamp and it appears that everything came thru great except I can not see the steams.  The Gps I'm using is an Garmin 62S and I downloaded it to the SD card.  Has anyone had this happen and how do I correct it?

GPSr Units / GPS MAP 62S Questions?
October 25, 2010, 10:59:38 AM
I bought a GPSMAP 62S about a month ago and have some questions.  I'm having two things happening which I don't know if it's normal or not.....

1.   When I turn the unit on it places a small track dot and then the GPS lays a track to the dot without me moving.
2.   The track seems to be inconsistent.  It often cut corners off at a 45 degree angle which when measured is anywhere from 30' to 50' off.  Sometimes it tracks exactly on the road and other times it's off 15' to 20'.

I've talked to three Garmin reps and they sent me a new unit but the new unit operates the same as the original.  Called then after receiving the new unit and the rep said.....

1.   The unit making its own tracking line upon start up is because it is acquiring satellites and they are moving.  He called it satellite drift.  Is this true because the unit didn't do it before the most recent update.
2.   He said that the track tolerance can be up to 50' off and it's not always consistent with the path I'm taking.  He also suggested some setting change to fix the cutting-off of the corners but that didn't work.

Kinda just curious if this is the way they work or is there a setting(s) that could be changed to correct these issues.   This is my first GPS so I have no idea of what is acceptable.  I'm using the Wisconsin 24K Topo map from this site.  Any suggestions??

I bought a map and it has coordinates at certain intersections to help identify when I'd be close to a spot of interest.  They look like this 45.201,16' N 88.852,26' W.  I tried entering them into a Garmin 62 and it looks like a different format.  My input options on the Garmin look like this N45 16.315 W89 01.781 (sample numbers).  How do I enter the maps coordinates into the Garmin??

GPSr Units / Garmin 62S and Downloading
September 21, 2010, 06:42:24 AM
I have the new Garmin 62S and I'm wanting to download the WI Topo map.  Has anyone had issues downloading the maps with the new GPS's?  So far I have Mapsource installed and the map transfered to Mapsourece.  Garmin reccommends using Basecamp but the description on the WI Topo on this site says use Mapsource.  My next step will be putting the map on the mico SD card and then into the GPS but I wanted to know if that will work and if there has been any issue's.  I've read somethng about unlocking maps and formatting the SD card but have no idea if this is needed and how to do it.   Thanks in Advance!
