Map Making Support / Re: Point Reyes map assistance
June 17, 2010, 08:29:27 AM
Being a shy person . . . .

YEEEEEE!    HAAAAAAAA!!!!!

I did convert my ".pdf" to a ".jpg", just need to play with the Google program to figure it out.

AND . . .

The posted "thomales.kmz" is the map I needed!  Thanks!

Though the followup posting of "210-7496-Midpeninsuia-Open-Space.tgz" is south of my planned hike Friday, the file will surely be useful for future hikes.  Again, "a big Thank You!" to the poster!

Sure glad I found this forum!

Thanks to all assisters!!!

Map Making Support / Re: Google Map
June 16, 2010, 01:28:30 PM
Ooops!

Looks more complicated than I thought, at least for Friday's hike!

I downloaded Google Earth, for Mac, but can't get the "Image Overlay" to activate under the "add" tab.

Google must require some type of subscription?  Oh, well.  I'll have to use the topo of that area from my Garmin Topo-West DVD, though the trails are not there, I can at least make waypoints as I hike along using the park's handout map.

I have to learn more about this Google Earth stuff later.

Thanks for the reply anyway, just wish I could find that site I found the map as a download before.

Thanks!

I did try this before, however, may have rushed too fast through the instructions.

I downloaded a map from the Natl Park Service site for the Point Reyes Natl Seashore.  It is a "pdf" with relief.  How do I load it onto my Oregon 450?  Does some type of custom map needed?  I found a mountable map once, but by accident trashed it.  I am MAC based.
