I have had both AZ and WI topos on my Garmin from this site via Mapsource.  When I load AL both AZ and WI disappeared.  I reloaded WI and AL disapeared (in the Oregon unit).  I checked the memory card and I'm not anywhere near capacity.

Should I be highlighting everything from the various states I want and downloading to the Oregon at the same time?

I just got mine recently at the REI sale as well.  I updated the software when I registered it about two weeks ago.  Don't tell anyone but its a Christmas present for me and I took it out of the box to do all this when nobody was around.  So come Christmas I'll update the software again and see what happens.

There is a previous thread in which the cause of an incorrect map position was identified as having lake maps and the WI Topo active at the same time in an Oregon 300 unit.

However, I found that the same problem occurs when any other map in addition to the WI Top (from this site) is used.  For example I loaded custom maps (kmz files).  If the cusom map and WI Top are enabled my position on the map is off by 30-50 ft.  If I turn the cusom map off I snap back to where I really am on the map.

Has anyone else had that problem?  Could this be Garmin's way of punishment for using a topo other than theirs?

I found the problem and this could be a bug.

I have Garmin on the water maps in my GPS and enabled.  When I disabled the water maps the topo map snapped to where it should be.  My track now is dead on the rail line where it should be.

Makes me wonder how accurate the water maps will be.  But at least this problem was solved.

I assume you're saying two datums have a difference of 33 ft.  Not sure about the powerline significance.  I have this difference no matter where I am in this area (railroad track, many roads, etc)

I don't think its trying to snap to a road.  I notice the same issue with roads on the same map (again its the WI Topo from this site).  My position on the Oregon display is always 30-50 ft east of where I actually am on the earth.  Railroad, Road road, etc.  In Mapsource a track looks ok.

It must be a datum setting.  I have not changed it from the default (I was not aware how to change it).  I'll check that to make sure its WGS84 and try again to see if there is any difference.

Ironically my position in WI is Oregon, WI.

Its more like 50 feet off but what's baffling is the track in Mapsource is dead on.  Same map, same track

If I view the track in Google Earth it matches the map on my GPS which is wrong as it shows I'm way off the railroad track I was on.  But in Mapsource it looks right.

No offense.  I feel like my question is a stupid one.  Yes I loaded the Wisconsin Topo from this site to Mapsource and then from there to the GPS.  Thats the map with the railroad detail.  THe only other maps I have are the base map (which has no railroad track detail) and water maps.

I have an Oregon 300 and recently walked along some railroad tracks which are on the WI Topo I downloaded from this site.  The track I made looked like I was 30 ft off the railroad tracks when I was walking on them.  Once uploaded into Mapsource my track in this program is right on the rail line.

I don't understand how the track can look different on the same map. ANy ideas

I've been working through the Water Data tutorial (thanks for that) to generate water topos in one area of Wisconsin and everything has gone fairly smoothly until I try to export the Shapefiles from postgis.  Using the DOS command suggested I get a WARNING:  Cannot determine spatial reference (empty table or unknown spatial ref) No prj file will be generated.

It must have problems with the database.  I did not get any indication of problems before this point.

If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it.

That link is a deadend.  Thats what I'm talking about.  It points to the Garmin site and they are not making MapSource an available download - only updates.  The original software is not on the Garmin site

I just purchased a Oregon GPS and found this site.  I went to the Garmin website as instructed by the installing maps tutorial on this site.  The Garmin site however only gives out patches to MapSource and not the origninal software.

Any ideas on where to get MapSource if I did not purchase Garmin maps?  I expected the software to be on the CD supplied with the Oregon unit.  I was very disapointed to find the CD was only an electronic users manual.  THey did not even supply a hard copy with the unit.

Any ideas are appreciated!
