Title: Unwanted Tracks
Post by: the wanderer on February 16, 2014, 03:57:35 PM
Why does my Montana show tracks from a Home Base location when the unit is not turned on until we arrive at a staging area? These tracks form a direct line-of-sight from Home Base to stage area.  Can eliminate in Mapsource but once reloaded back on Montana they reappear! :o

Don't have a Montana, but if my GPS62 and Etrex30 are similar, they record the "Current Track" continuously.  In order to eliminate the unwanted straight legs created when the unit is turned off, I always "Save Track" at the end of a hike, and "Clear Current Track".  For belt and suspenders, I also "Clear Current Track" when I start a new hike.

That's what I have always done on my Montana as well.

Bit of an old post but may help newer readers

You can go into the settings of the tracks and turn of the track record after each hike, save the track and then turn it back on at the start of a new one.

i have searched and tried to get a short cut onto the page menu to do this but you can't, ould be so much better instead of having to go pressing a few times

i use a gps map 62s but i think many other gamins work the same
