Title: Nevada Topo Map data segment disappearing
Post by: el69564 on January 15, 2014, 01:14:53 PM
I've been having a problem with the Nevada topo - the segment L7 wasn't displaying on my etrex20. I created a card with only the Nevada topo on it - everything is fine. When I create a card with another state (Arizona in this case) and Nevada, the segment does not display. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Disable the AZ mapset.
If the area of the NV L7 segment is also in a segment of the AZ mapset and the AZ mapset is displaying after the NV mapset, the data in the AZ mapset (blank outside AZ) is covering over the NV mapset data.

This sounds logical - if I have both maps in a single file, am I able to disable just one of them? If so, how do I do that? I am relatively new to all of this.  Or does it require
that I have 2 separate cards/files, one for NV, one for AZ. Thanks!

Your eTrex 20 supports multiple .img files. So you just need to be sure that the AZ mapset doesn't include the overlapping segment. There are various ways to do this. At least in theory, MapInstall should figure it all out automatically if you are just careful to only select the correct segments from each map initially.

For the newer devices, I have found it best not to use the old style Mapsource mapsets where several maps are contained in a single .img file. That has caused some strange things to happen on my Montana and Oregon.

You could also do this with mapsource. Send the first map, rename gmapsupp.img to arizona.img, send the second map and rename gmapsupp.img nevada.img.

Thank you so much - the multiple .img approach sounds like the way to go - I didn't realize the device would handle it. Unless I hit other problems, I'm good  :)
