Title: Help with basecamp 4.2.3, win 7 (64) not seeing maps
Post by: schwob on October 01, 2013, 08:33:59 PM
I run win 7 (64), read and followed the tutorials - exactly and read several threads regarding maps not seen in basecamp to no avail, I can still not see any downloaded map in basecamp.
Please help, what am I missing?

Details:
- downloaded the latest basecamp (4.2.3) for windows, installed it (all default) and closed it.
- downloaded mapsource, installed (default) and closed)
- downloaded iltopo11, run exe successfully
opened basecamp - cannot find that map (with my collection highlit it says this list is empty)
the iltopo11 files seemed installed (default) under C:\Program Files (x86)\iltopo11, just basecamp could not see them or see them there.
- rebooted, retried seeing the map in basecamp - no good
- uninstalled the iltopo11 map program from the control panel
- downloaded and installed mytrails map because of a forum thread offering this as a first map download as a fix for when win 7 (64) is used.
However I cannot see that either.
Interesting is that this one installed to C:\garmin (a directory it appears that install created)
Also tried uninstalling and re installing basecamp and mapsource - just cannot see downloaded and installed maps.
Also tried a Michigan Map - all to no avail
HELP - please?

Try installing http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/53 . It's been known to fix a bug that occurs in Win7 with some 64 bit installers.  Note that the map I linked to is trails only, and they don't show up until you zoom in below 7 miles.  Zoom in on one of the dots that show at higher zoom levels.

That (installing that version of mytrails) is exactly what I did at home. Am at work right now and tried again, just to be sure. Well thanks for the hint (re-hint), it may just be user error on my behalf, because now I am getting somewhere.

Here is where I (totally uninitiated user with apparent trouble comprehending instructions) went wrong in case someone else has this "issue":
On the left side of the Bascamp window there is a bare with a "library" tab, under which there is a "unlisted data" folder tab. Both those are empty. Which led me to conclude I am not seeing the downloaded maps. - Here is where my user error seems to be rooted as this does not seem to be where to look...
The top most tool drop down bar in the basecamp window has a tab labled "Maps". That's where MyTrails did show up. ... duh...
Now,I thought I was sure I looked there at home last night and it was not there - but I cannot check on that right now. - But that's where to look...
