Title: Adding forest roads to a map
Post by: pwabrahams on July 28, 2013, 08:02:16 PM
I am trying to augment an existing map of a forested area to include forest roads and trails.  Official roads are already visible, but unofficial roads are not.  I can easily enough create tracks, but I'm looking for something more permanent.  Also, official roads are labelled while tracks, though named, are not.  I'm running Garmin Basecamp and my device is a Garmin ETrex Venture HC.

Basically, I want to convert tracks to roads.  Is there a reasonably simple way to do that?

If you want to make a map  -Oz- wrote this great tutorial http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-create-garmin-topo-maps/ .  However, the TOS of this site forbids discussion of how to modify existing maps.

You should consider making an overlay map with the added roads, send both to your gps and the added roads will be there.

Easy to do with http://www.gpx2img.com/

Yes - take a look at these two programs. They can create a transparent overlay map from your tracks.
