Title: Posting Rules?
Post by: JMartin on June 24, 2013, 09:18:10 PM
Hello,

A new member here who has posted twice and had both posts deleted without explanation.  I even PM'd a moderator, asking for help on what I was doing wrong and heard nothing back.  I am more than willing to play by the rules, but what are the rules?

I had a question about making an older version of Garmin TOPO work with my Montana GPSr.  I have it working to a point, but would like to understand the nuances of certain items.  Is this entire topic taboo?  I own both TOPO and the Montana.

The sub-heading of this board says, "Feel free to post anything and everything..."  So maybe this post will survive.

Thanks for any help,

Jay

Generally speaking this site is geared towards making your own maps and using the maps downloaded here.

However, Garmin actually offers an official support article for your issue:

Thanks Boyd.  I have have been able to install TOPO, using the exact procedure you pointed out above.  My problem came when trying to use TOPO on my Montana.  It has since been explained to me, via. PM, that my posts were deleted because I was meddling with Garmin's maps, a violation of their ELUA.  My bad.

Yesterday I downloaded the Wyoming TOPO map from this site and am anticipating a similar problem once I try to install it.  If I do encounter that problem, I will start a new post requesting help.

Thanks again,

Jay

I've had a Montana 600 for two years now and am not sure what you're talking about. Not aware of any oddities when it comes to installing maps. Are you perhaps exceeding the segment limit? See: http://forums.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php/topic,3412.0.html
