Title: eTrex 20 & OSM maps?
Post by: UKhank on January 31, 2012, 04:09:04 PM
newbie
Etrex 20 but should be the same
got maps from the dutch site garmin.openstreetmap.nl
renamed them according to country e.g. gmapAUSNZsupp.img
made a 'garmin' folder in my 8 gig SD
copied files to that folder

Etrex still displays all files as world routable so I dragged some of them to the main (H dive) directory so etrex cannot see them, with most of the world loading seemed slower.

then connected to PC, start basecamp and then basecamp can 'see' the files.
again basecamp after importing calls them all OSM routable but the tiles will show if you choose another region from the dropdown (through trial and error)

however not sure how to keep the files in basecamp, opening the london file deleted my OSM world routable from my library and now I cannot get it back, disconnecting the etrex and reopening basecamp all is gone

I think that is a limitation on their maps, you might find the answers on their forum: OSM forum (http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewforum.php?id=26)

Get the installer version that goes directly into BaseCamp rather than the gmapsupp.img.  They use a script that will generate name conflicts if you try to use it more than once.
