Title: 62S menu actions;
Post by: lawestpar on November 14, 2011, 12:58:17 PM
I now have the latest andgreatest, to me anyway, sitting on my desk and downloading maps and elevations.  I have the ETREX, retired after the Bulky ZUMO, for handheld ops was replaced with the Colorado.  The 62S does not offer a an on/off switch that I can find anyway on the trip Computer.  The Colorado, despite consuming batteries and having an all but invisible screen, had some redeeming features. Stopping the track and re=setting the fields of the trip Computer was great.  I want to STOP  the trip computer from constantly running. There must be an off somewhere.  I have menu>menu and pushed every combination of menu options.
Anyone know if there is 1) an on/off switch for the trip computer/tracks and 2) some way to adjust the re-set of the fields for the trip computer rather than re-setting the entire field???

You can stop logging track points by going to the Setup menu, choosing Tracks, then setting Track Log to Do Not Record. But there's no way to stop the Trip Computer from running - the only thing you can do is Reset Trip Data, which resets all the fields. You can't just reset a single field, either. Dumb, I know.

Thanks.  I have got that dialed in.  Just wanted to keep some data.  Like, top speed, 582 MPH, highest elevation, non-aircraft, lowest point, Death Valley........  Those data points should be remembered not erased. Come on Garmin.  At least a  screen that records highs and lows.  I can mark a waypoint and it stays around.  Waaaay off topic.  I saw a techno gadget show last night that has a heads up display (HUD) that fits in ski goggles,  It is a GPS with a display screen and some bluetooth abilities linked to cell phones.  At the    end of the day, it has total vertical read out and the like to compare with techno buddies. Pretty sure the GPS will take care of this as well.

It's interesting... Garmin just released a beta software update for the Montana today that offers a lot of new things, including multiple trip computers that might do what you want. Haven't tried it yet myself, so I'm not clear on exactly what these do.

Maybe they will implement something similar on the 62 series in the future? If not, then it wouldn't hurt to contact Garmin support and request it, citing the Montana as an example.

This is a link to the Montana update: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=5680

And this the feature that might address your complaint

QuoteAdded trip computer setup for additional configurability. This includes adding multiple trip computer pages.
