Title: Really REALLY not getting this
Post by: molepoblano on June 19, 2011, 06:16:56 PM
Hi there.  First, I'm sorry if this has been posted before--I'm sure it has been but I haven't been able to find the answers that work for me, so I thought I'd try again but in really layman terms.

I've got a Dakota 20 and a mac computer.  I'm trying to put maps from here to the dakota.  I followed the tutorial to install Mapinstall and mapmanager.  I downloaded the maps from here (my trails).  I go to mapinstaller to install.  I see various rectangles or grids, but they are all blank and unlabeled--they don't like the example in the tutorial.  So when I download them, I'm only finding some of the places on the dakota.

When I click on mapmanager, it takes me to my documents.  I'm not understanding that too much.

I'm also really not understanding the basecamp and the mapsource.  Are those applicable to macs?

Any and all assistance for a lo-tech person would be greatly appreciated.  THANKS!

Not being there to see what you're seeing, I can only guess that you are either installing maps that are not for the area that your software is pinpointed to, or you haven't zoomed in to see detail.
I have seen this when I installed trails that are a transparent type. Only the trails show on them, and you have to zoom in and pan around to see them. That is unless you are where they are and you zoom in.
Check the toolbar on your map software, and see what level of area detail that you are looking at. You'll need to be into a 2-3 miles or less to see any detail on some maps.
