Title: Blm and KFC
Post by: Seldom on May 13, 2011, 06:42:42 AM
I've got BLM set to all CAPs in my GM package file and it shows correctly in GPSmapEdit.  The KFC POI is also set to all CAPs.  KFC shows up correctly, but Blm shows up with only the first letter capitalized.  Anybody figured a way around this?  Or better yet, why KFC works and Blm doesn't.  The last Western Ownership map I downloaded also had this problem.

Are you putting Kentucky Fried Chicken locations on your maps?  ;D

I also see the same annoying thing with capitalization. When I abbreviate "State Forest" as SF, it shows up as Sf on the GPS. I think this is just Garmin being "helpful" and doing auto-caps so that either "MAIN ST" or "main st" are changed to "Main St". I don't think there's anything we can do as mapmakers to prevent this because it has to do with the way Mapsource and the GPS interpret the map data.

If there is a fix, I'd also love to know what it is. And I'd also like to know why cgpsmapper compiled files don't properly show mixed case street names on older units (etrex, 60csx) while Garmin's own maps and Mapwel compiled maps work correctly.

Another oversite by Garmin.  Also does that on the 'standard' abbreviations for railroads.

I'm actually making a 2x5 degree routable map using OSM data, which included POIs. OSM users must like fried chicken.
