Title: Any way to use these maps with a Delorme Earthmate?
Post by: movemaine on September 19, 2010, 04:45:17 PM
Hi,
I would really love to use a lot of these different maps/overlays with a Delorme PN-40.
Has anyone done it, or know how to?
Is there a way to import these maps into the Delorme Topo software? and then export it to the device?

thanks!

You won't be able to load them onto an EarthMate GPSr, but you can use them on your computer with one. DeLorme has a Serial emulator drive that will then drive any software that will take a NMEA source:

The maps here ONLY work on GARMIN units. You could use them on your computer with Garmin software however, which I think is what Indrid is alluding to. Garmin used to make a free program called nRoute for this purpose, but they have discontinued it and no long support it.

It is still available here: http://www.gawisp.com/perry/nroute/nRoute_276.exe

If you follow the instructions on this site and install the maps in Mapsource, then they will also be installed in a location where nRoute will find them. You would then need to connect a GPS to your computer to use the maps. This probably isn't what you're looking for, since you'd need to hike around with a laptop, cable, and GPS.  ;D

So really, the answer to your question is "NO, the maps on this site can't be used with anything but Garmin GPS'es."
