Title: How to remove map files from R/W microSD card on Garmin 62st?
Post by: lecycliste on September 03, 2010, 02:06:14 PM
I need to make space on my GPS for more maps.

How do I remove map files I've placed on my GPSMap 62st using BaseCamp or MapSource?

I have both programs installed on a Q6600 quad-core PC running Windows Vista Home Premium.

Thanks.

When you use mapsource/basecamp to send maps to your GPS, the new maps replace the old ones so it shouldn't really be necessary to remove anything.

However, the maps will be in a file name gmapsupp.img (unless you have renamed it yourself), so you could just delete that. DO NOT delete gmapprom.img - that if your pre-loaded topo file.

But before doing anything, do yourself a favor and backup your unit so that you can restore if you accidently delete something that you need. Just create a folder on your computer and drag all the files from you 62st to it. It will take awhile to copy, since you have the pre-installed topo's on your unit. It will also probably require almost 3GB free disk space.
