Once hosted images have been linked to a forum, do they need to remain in my image library in order to stay visible in the forum, or do they exist in the forum as separate entities?
Am I right in assuming that if the images can be seen as part of the post they are "attached" but if the post just links to a URL it is "linked"?

If I understand the terminology then, my unattached images are "embedded".
Embedded images can be from any source on the net. All you need is the [ img ] tags and a valid URL. I have embedded a number of images in my own posts which are not hosted on this site.
