Title: Question on Power Use: ON-OFF vs. Leaving it ON
Post by: TLock on May 15, 2010, 05:43:22 AM
I'm trying to figure battery usage for a nearly 3 week trip:  My 60CSx can go over 24 hrs when used during a day (scrolling, zooming in/out, etc.) the forgotten overnight...On my trip I will only be looking at lat/long. as we have paper maps and no map software for the unit.  We'd probably be checking our location only a few times a day, but I'm wondering if it would suck batteries more to power-on/off 3-4 times rather than just leave it on for 12 hours?  Anyone know?
Thanks, Tim

There are a lot of free mapsets available on this website.

I have not made any study of this but when going cross country I usually turn my 60CSx off after checking my location and depend on a compass for awhile. Same thing if I'm on the ATV but don't need the compass because of trails/roads. End result I would guess is a lot more usage time is gained by this method. I do always carry spare batts though just in case. I have certainly cycled on/off many more than 10-12 times.

i always just leave my on throughout my hikes; I want the breadcrumb trail when i'm done.
