Title: Adding Maps to Map Source
Post by: Slade Rummel on March 24, 2010, 06:21:18 AM
Can someone tell me how to get the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks image file onto mapsource? It is the file that is mentioned on this site under "South Dakota 2009 Hunting".

Just looking at that site, it does not appear that those maps are directly compatible with Mapsource (see: http://www.sdgfp.info/wildlife/gps/data/GarminInst.asp). They are using some kind of custom program to upload their maps to your GPS. You *might* be able to get it to work with a little messing around though.

After loading the file on your GPS, copy the gmapsupp.img from the GPS to a folder on your computer. Then follow the instructions here for loading .img files without a .tdb file into MapsetToolkit: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-.img-files-into-mapsource-with-mapsettoolkit/

Those maps are for use on your GPS and aren't meant to be installed into MapSource. They are using MapWel's Mapupload software (http://www.mapwel.eu/down.htm) to transfer to the Garmin GPS units.
