Title: GPSmap 76CSx Arabic
Post by: spotcastr on July 23, 2025, 12:40:40 AM
WebUpdater fails as shown in the screenshot attached. So does the updater standalone from Garmin for the 78CSx. This model only has English and Arabic languages. Is there a firmware update available that might work?Screen Shot 07-18-25 at 11.43 AM.JPG

Sorry, I can't help. But FYI, your screenshot is not showing in the forums. That is something I don't really have any control over as a moderator, but believe it's no longer possible to upload images on the forum, you need to host them elsewhere and just link to them in your post. See this:

"As of December 2022, due to an increase in spam and decrease in usage GPSFileDepot will no longer provide free image hosting."

76csx update (https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=1249)

The link above will take you to the update page.  Looks like you need to run the updater after unzipping and use the included .rgn update file...maybe this is what you have already done.  4.00 looks to be the most "recent" update, from 2009.  BTW I am able to see your screenshot.

That is interesting, even with mod privileges for me it just says

"You cannot view this attachment."

If I use a different browser that I've never used on this site and don't login, it still says the same thing. Very odd....

I'm able to see in Firefox and Ungoogled Chromium.  Imgur link is a screenshot of a screenshot in U C.  My FF is super "hardened" the U C not so much.  Win 10 with defender and updates neutered fwiw.

I'm going to attempt to screenshot and link/post the image on the homepage

Thanks for trying. I can see the imgur fine, but the three screenshots in the previous post just say "you cannot view this attachment". As a mod, I can edit your post and see the bbcode for the attachment, but if I try to view it, same problem.

This is something that Dan would have to fix, so I think "it is what it is".  ;)

FWIW, I can see all the uploaded screenshots in this thread using latest Google Chrome under Windows 10 Pro N., but only after I login.  Before logging in: "You cannot view this attachment."

Thanks for all the responses here.

I spent an hour on phone with Garmin CS. I shared my phone camera with Daniel and walked through the issues with him watching. He asked for internal help. Came back with some interesting ideas.  Apparently, ARABIC language was added at some point to this device.  He doesn't know why the unzipped update fails to write.  Probably something with the additional ARABIC in a name pattern check.  He wasn't able to provide further help.

Hacking the updater.exe is a last resort.  Or cloning the flash chip?
Title: Re: GPSmap 76CSx Arabic (Solved!)_

I was able to solve this issue with the RGN_Tool.exe. Dropped 029201000400.rgn file Original 00f201000400 FW.PNG into the RGN_Tool.exe "File Drag Zone"; modified the boot.bin and fw_all.bin HWID from 292 to 1111 ->Modified HWID FW.PNG  saved modified renaming to 00f201000400.rgn.

Then dragged modified file, 00f201000400.rgn over Updater.exe and flashed successfully!  All languages are now available.

Do this at your own risk! Your mileage may vary.

I'm not familiar with that tool and it kind of has an early 2000's look, but...success!
