I'm not clear on exactly what you're asking. What kind of file is it? Is it a map? A track? Waypoints? Can you currently access it on your computer?

There should be no need to update anything. My PC is still on Windows 7, but AFAIK, Mapsource still works fine on Windows 10. So you should still be able to use your old files in Mapsource. There is a trick to installing it on a new machine however.

Download here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

But before you use it, run GMTK: http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html

"When you use JaVaWa GMTK to transfer maps to a new PC it is higly recommended to do this before installing MapSource. The downloadable version of MapSource is an update version, that refuses to install when no older version exists. JaVaWa GMTK prepares, when necessary, automatically your PC so that MapSource will install properly."

Simply install Basecamp and it should see any installed maps and you will be able to import any files.
