Title: Mile Markers on Track
Post by: ybracing on July 19, 2016, 01:58:57 PM
Hi everyone,
I am trying to automatically create mile marker way points for a route.  I have heard of a program called TerraTrack5 which is supposed to be able to do this.  I have been unable to find the program or anything else that will work.  I have a track that requires a mile marker posted every mile and do not want to do it manually. Any help would be appreciated.

Well GlobalMapper can easily do this, but it's an expensive full featured GIS package. qGIS is a free open source program with many capabilities but I have not used it very much. Would be worth a look to see if it can do what you want.

A quick search found this plug-in: https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/qchainage/

Quite a bit comes up if you do a Google search such as

qgis create points along line

Thanks Boyd,

That looks like it should work.  I'm new to this so I shall stumble forward.
