Title: Garmin Etrex Vista HCx ?
Post by: gldprimr on July 11, 2009, 09:37:22 AM
Looking at picking up one of these to use while hunting.  Do I have to purchase the MapSource software to download the topo maps available here on this site or can I download MapSource from Garmin's site as listed here and then download the maps provided by the members here?

The only map I'm really interested in using is the one for the state of Mississippi, particularly Amite & Franklin counties where I hunt.

Thanks in advance to replies to the question of a total novice.

You don't have to purchase mapsource: see this tutorial: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-install-mapsource-if-it-didnt-come-with-your-gps/

For help loading the map see this one: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-maps-on-my-garmin-gps-unit/

The Vista HCx comes with a version of MapSource; Trip & Waypoint Manager. Install that and you don't need training center to install the current upgrade.
