Title: Help with using GPS coordinates
Post by: kostyan on March 31, 2015, 07:52:09 PM
Installed both "Michigan topo" and "my trails" maps.
With Basecamp and my garmin device, when entering GPS coordinates of a known place, it shows it about 1/3 mile off the correct location for both maps.
If I enter the same coordinates at google maps - location is correct.

In the basecamp settings I use the same datum (NAD83) as at the GPS coordinates info.

What am I doing wrong?

Standard datum for Garmin maps is WGS84.

So if I have coordinates of a campground in Nad83, what's proper way of entering them so it's positioned on a garmin map properly?

ok, I guess I figured out what was wrong.
the "grid" settings was set to UTM at BaseCamp, when I changed It to be "Lat/Lon hddd mm'ss.s'' " it started working regardless of what datum was selected.
