Title: Garmain etrex 20 vs Garmin Legend HC
Post by: jandbrare on January 09, 2015, 12:41:38 PM
I bought a new Legend because the screen was scratched on the old one.  I also own an etrex 20.  The etrex 20 has vastly more storage capacity for maps, but I don't like the way it puts all track information from all sessions in the same file.  Seems you can stop recording and start a new file with the next session but you must remember to do that.  The Venture, on the other hand, will start a new track file even if the GPS loses satellite reception, even temporarily.  I prefer this approach.  But, I'd like to have the memory capacity of the etrex 20.  Is there a different series that will start a new track file each time the device is powered up and has generous memory?

Thanks for any response.

The way I deal with it on all my handhelds is:

Clear the tracklog at the start of the trip.
Save the tracklog at the end of the trip.
Clear the tracklog again.

That will give you separate tracklogs named by date stamp.
