Hi,
I have downloaded a .kmz map and tried to install it on the sd card under garmin/custommaps on my Etrex20 - as outlined on this and other forums.
When I go to restart the Etrex20 freezes on the start up panel (ir doesn't even make it to the "loading maps" stage). I can reset the unit as a mass storage device (hold up arrow while connecting to PC) - and remove the file. Then the unit boots up fine.
If I load the file simply to sd card/garmin. No problem with start up - but I can't see the map.
I have had no problems installing other format maps through Map Install.
This is the first time I have tried to install a .kmz file so maybe I am doing something wrong.
Any ideas?
Not all .kmz files are going to work with your gps, where did you download it from?
Hi. I downloaded this directly as a .kmz file from a site called teararoa.org.nz - a site dedicated to a walking trail the length of NZ.
That would be the ones that don't work, those are for a Google Earth.
You want the .gpx files from here: http://www.teararoa.org.nz/downloads/
