Title: what map should i download?
Post by: louie56 on June 12, 2013, 07:11:39 PM
Please help.
I just bought a Garmin 450 for use on forest service roads and trail ridding of ATV,s.  I need some suggestions on what to download to get me started.  Primary use is in Idaho and washington-mostly Wallace, lookout passand the bby co rd areas.  I read somewhere that I could download free maps but am not sure what I need 24k, 100k or am I better off just purchasing a 100k topo?
Please help, I don't know where to start.
Thank you
Louie..

I do some off-road driving, and have found the 24k topo and satellite imagery is the best for that kind of activity. I like the 24k available on this site,  because a lot of them show water features and seasonal stream info that helps plan the route. The satellite imagery is nice because if you're not really confident in reading topo lines, you can get a better lay of the land by using the sat images.
