Title: Sending a new map on Nuvi
Post by: Schnee on October 06, 2012, 10:26:25 AM
Hi,

I have designed a new map using GPSMapEdit, and uploaded it in my Nuvi 1370 using BaseCamp, etc.
Now I can see my map in a subdirectory map/gmapsupp.img

If I want to give this map to some friend, can I just send him the file so he can copy it into his Nuvi, or do I have absolutely to use BaseCamp again on his unit?

Thanks.

Sure, that file should work on any Garmin device. However you should be aware that not all Nuvi's use the same file structure. On the 13x0, 14x0 and newer devices, maps go into the \Map directory as you have noted. They can have any name you choose as long as the .img extension is used.

On older Nuvi's, the map must be named gmapsupp.img and must be placed in the \Garmin folder. Also note that the gmapsupp.img file will not be recognized by Mapsource or Basecamp on the computer and can only be used on the GPS itself.

Thanks, this is quite clear.
