Title: GPSMAP 62sc
Post by: MoabUT on July 04, 2012, 01:04:17 PM
Is the Garmin TOPO US 24K Southwest a good map for this unit. I have  read elsewhere that there is too much detail for the small screen on the 62. If not could someone recommend a good topo for Utah, specifically the Moab area.
Thanks

Nothing wrong with Garmins 24K topo maps. You can adjust which zoom levels different items appear so as not to clutter the screen too much.

Also, just updated is the Desert SouthWest Topo here:

And Moab Trails:

babj615, I guess you got Desert Southwest working. 8)

Since you mentioned Bryce the OP might also be interested in http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/233/ which is vector based and routable.  Of course Desert Southwest includes both Bryce-Zion-CARE and Arch-Cany, but it's a much bigger download.

Thanks for the information. I downloaded the Desert Southwest file and installed it. Haven't transferred it to my 62sc yet.

There are some map name conflicts between DesertSouthwest, BRCA-Zion-CARE, and ARCH-CANY.  This means if Desert Southwest and one of the others is loaded on your GPSr tiles with name conflicts won't show.  This won't be a problem if you just load DesertSouthwest to your GPSr, and since it's the most current, it should cover everything in the smaller mapsets.
