Title: Custom Map Disappears from Set Up Menu
Post by: gatoruss on October 06, 2011, 03:55:58 PM
I have an Oregon 450.

I created a Garmin Custom map using the tutorial posted on Garmin's site.  Everything seemed to work fine and I saved the file onto my card under the appropriate file name.  When I went into Set Up>Maps>Map Information, the Custom Map was listed, I was able to "Enable" the map and it displayed in the unit.  I later played around with my settings - changing my profile, resetting my track log and resenting my trip counter.  Then I turned the unit off for several hours.  This afternoon, I noticed that the map was not displayed and when I tried to confirm that it was enabled, I discovered that the was not listed under Set Up>Maps>Map Information.  I checked the card via mass storage, and the file was present.  I deleted it and reloaded via GE, and now the map again is listed in Set Up>Maps>Map Information and displayed in the unit.

Any idea why that happened?

Thanks.

Changing profiles has been reported to have unexpected results.  Unexpected results and profile changes have not been thoroughly documented.  Consensus around here seems to be put the unit on "Recreational" profile and leave it there.

Did that fix it?

I had deleted the file from my card and reloaded the file.  I played around with the prifiles and changed from one to another and the behavior was not repeated.  The map file shows up.

I have now set the profile to "Recreational," as you suggested and everything seems to be fine.

Not sure what happened?

Thanks again.
