I don't know what the "terminated" thing is. But here's the correct way to do it. Download and install Basecamp first: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435

Now install Mapsource and you should be good to go.

Hello,
First off, I am new to this forum and to GPSfiledepot. I am trying (unsuccessfully) to import maps I've down-loaded from your site to my Garmin Dakota via Mapsource. I had an (much) older version of Mapsource, which did not recognize my GPS. I followed the instructions on your site, and successfully downloaded the updated version of Mapsource. It recognizes my GPS, but now I cannot import the downloaded .img maps into Mapsource. I followed the instructions for downloading the .img files, re-did everything after I updated Mapsource. In the old version of Mapsource, the screen appeared as your screenshot did, and I was able to choose what map to load. In the new version of Mapsource, there is no drop-down menu to choose what map to load.
I have been at this for hours now. Please help! Thanks.

You don't import .img files into MapSource:

As you have a Dakota, you would benefit from using BaseCamp:

I followed all of the instructions (multiple times!) to convert .img maps in order to load them in mapsource and subsequently in my Dakota. But still no luck. I have no idea what i am doing wrong. Will the mapset tool import the data to mapsource automatically? Will it also import it into Basecamp?

Forget about importing .img files and using mapsettoolkit. You should not be doing any of that. Just follow the tutorials in the links above EXACTLY as they are written. Mapsettoolkit is used by mapmakers to create files for Mapsource, and it is rarely needed by "ordinary" users.

I re-downloaded the map (AK Topo), and extracted the files to a folder on my desktop. They are .img files. The do not show up in my Mapsource or Basecamp. It seems like I need to follow these instructions: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-.img-files-into-mapsource-with-mapsettoolkit/, but they involve Mapsettoolkit.
I tried that, with no luck. Should I give it a whirl again to see if I screwed something up the 1st time?

As Indrid posted earlier, use this tutorial: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-open-maps-in-mapsource/    You need to do step 2 - and follow the appropriate other steps in the order listed.  The AK topo mapset is downloaded as a self-installing .exe file.  Simply run/execute the file.  THEN start MapSource/Basecamp - the programs only check for available mapsets when they start up; they will not 'see' a mapset installed while they are running.

You do NOT extract anything from the downloaded .exe file.   MapSource/BaseCamp can not use the individual .img files.
