Title: mapsource - what drop-down-menu?
Post by: jagdpanther on March 28, 2011, 09:24:15 PM
I have a new  Garmin Nuvi (2460LMT) and wanted to add the California Topo map from GPSFileDepot.

I am reading the tutorial  http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-maps-on-my-garmin-gps-unit/ (http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-maps-on-my-garmin-gps-unit/) and step two states:  "Select the map you want to load from the drop down menu in the upper left corner."

I can't find any drop down menu in mapsource.  I am using MapSource 6.16.3 on a Win 7 system.  (I down-loaded and installed MapSource according to the short tutorial on GPSFileDepot.)

The only reference inside MapSource to the California Topo map that I installed is in Utilities -> Manage Map Products.  There I see only one line and it contains:
California Topo  1.00  Not lockable  c:\Program Files (x86)\California Topo\

But I can't figure out how to select it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The top illustration on your link below shows a drop down window with "Arizona Topo" in it.  If you click on the down arrow you should find your California topo.

There's an option under View > Toolbars to hide or show the dropdown map menu. Can't remember which one since I'm on my Mac right now.  :) Might be View > Toolbars > View

Thank you for the replies.

The top illustration show two tool bars under the standard "File Edit Find ..." line.  I only have one.  The missing tool-bar probably has the drop down.

Yes, this is probably the issue.  I'll try it tonight.    Thank you.

I'm having the same issue: no drop down menu (running Win7 & latest version of Mapsource, recently updated from version 2.0). I go to view->switch to product-> and all I see are to options:
no map
Trip and Waypoint Manager v2

Please help!! Thanks.

To get the drop down, go to View->Show Toolbars->Show All Toolbars

Install some maps to get more choices:)

Indeed.... what you describe implies that you have not installed any maps yet. Trip and Waypoint Manager is a crude basemap that is provided with that software package. Follow the tutorials on this site to download and install maps and you should be good to go.
