Title: New MacBook and SD Card slot
Post by: Bob874 on March 28, 2011, 12:32:18 PM
I have a new MacBook 15" that has the built in SD card slot. Can you load maps directly to a Micro SD card without using a Garmin device?   Thanks for help.

Yes, if your computer has a built in reader/writer you can use it.

Anything that the operating system views as a "removable device" can be used, such as a USB reader or internal slot. You could even create a mountable .dmg file with Disk Utility and use that for maps.

Thanks Indrid Cold and Boyd. Being new to this, my first attempt didn't go well. I down-loaded 3 maps, FL, ME. and NH. With mapinstall, I tried to install these onto the micro SD card but I got a pop-up window saying " NO Garmin Maps Found". I must be missing a few steps along the way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks again.

I have to remember search is my friend. I found a post back in 05/06/2009 by Indrid Cold that explained my problem and how to fix it. And it did!!  Thanks for your time and effort in making this a great site.
