Title: Media write protected
Post by: chriviat on February 24, 2011, 08:02:41 AM
I down loaded Michigan TOPO to a new card in a card reader, and it worked fine. When I tried to load another map to the same card I got the following message "There was a problem communicating with the data card. The media is write protected". I deleted the original map from the card tried a new down load, got the same message. Tried a Garmin map, same message. It is a 2gb card and I was able to view the original TOPO on a GPSMAP 60CSx. Any ideas?

Thanks

The cards have a small slider which can be positioned to write protect the card.  Sounds like it may have been positioned to the write protect position.  Strange that you could delete a file.

Thank you. That was the problem. When I pushed the card adaptor into the reader the slide lock button moved just enough to lock. I did in fact delete the original map that I loaded.
