Title: BLM/Tiger question
Post by: Seldom on January 18, 2011, 07:50:20 PM
If I get my Hydro from NHD and property lines from BLM Land Status is there any reason to download "All Lines" from Tiger 2010, or am I safe just downloading "All Roads"?

Pick a county and compare the two.
My findings using the first 9 States released were: there is a lot more feature types in the edges file than just hydro and roads (i.e. railroad and other line type features).  These featues may or may not matter for what you want to include.  Also not all of the data fields appropriate for roads/streets are included in the roads file.

Good point about railroads, thanks.

I used railroads from the TIGER files in my New Jersey maps, and they're OK. However, it shows a lot of non-existent tracks that were torn up long ago and are now completely overgrown.

I deleted all the hydro data myself. It was just streams IIRC, and they were not very complete or very accurate when I compared them to NHD.
