How to make Customized Map...?
I just came from a long tour to south india.

I want to make my personalized map regarding the places I travelled and want to make that map publicly available.

Please suggest me how can I make the map..??

Thanks.

It's a long read, but if you check out

http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-create-garmin-topo-maps/

you'll be able to ask more specific questions.

I don't know where you'll find GIS data for India, but maps4gps, OZ or Indrid Cold may know.

If you want to just make graphs that you can send your friends, check out GPSVisualizer...

hope it helps.

Is there openstreetmap data for your location? If so, Mapwel might be worth a look because it can import OSM data and even create a routable map from it. Mapwel has some nice features for customizing the appearance of your map (user-defined styles). See: http://mapwel.eu/

There's also a utility called OSM2MP that will convert OSM data to MP and lets you generate routable maps with GPSMapedit.
