Title: Garmin not recognizing "Northwest United States"
Post by: steelheadrun on June 27, 2010, 06:58:30 PM
I am new to GPS and recently purchased an Oregon 450.  I was disappointed in the Garmin 24K Topo maps and went to "GPS File Depot" for alternatives.  I downloaded "Nortwest United States" and tried loading it on the Oregon 450, but neither "Mapsource", nor "Basecamp" would recognize the file.  Any suggestions?

The file is not directly usable by MapSource/Basecamp nor a GPSr.  Did you install the .exe file you downloaded by running it?

Thanks for your assistance.  The download gave me a folder "134-8351-nwtopo_install" and a .zip file "134-8351-nwtopo_install.zip".  I tried opening the file with Mapsource and Basecamp and have not tried anything else.

Did you follow the tutorial? http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-maps-on-my-garmin-gps-unit/

You cannot "open" those files with Mapsource or Basecamp. The installer adds them to the maps which you can access inside the program. Use the dropdown menu to choose your map, select the sections that you want, send them to your GPS.
