Title: Maps on Garmin etrex H
Post by: cessna152 on April 12, 2010, 07:13:16 AM
I downloaded topo maps from the site and loaded them to an SD card to put into my etrex Hc.
When I install the card in the unit, will it automatically except them.  I'm kind of new to this, so I apoligize for the basic question.

That is the way it normally works.

How did you "load them to an SD card"? Many (if not most) maps on this site include installers. You will need to have Mapsource on you computer before installing the maps for this to work properly. You would then use Mapsource to send the maps to the SD card in your GPS. See these tutorials:

You can't just copy the downloaded files to your GPS in most cases. The maps need to be extracted and installed.

The thread title reads "etrex H" witch is a non mapping unit, and the OP mentions an "SD card" and an "etrex Hc" but the eTrex HC does not take any type of datacard. Maybe you could be a little clearer on what you need.
