I noticed tonight that there are certain buildings that are showing up on my GPS.  This must be from the GoogleEarth data.  Sure makes for a more interesting display on the GPS compared to the plain Topo maps.

So, the calibrating of the Topo over GoogleEarth was done just so the GPS could use it?  I sure would like to figure out how to get the imagery in there as well.  Any others feel free to chime in here.

Just spent a couple of hours layering a topo map over GoogleEarth and then sending the .kmz file over to my GPS.  On the first try, the Garmin stated the file was too big.  I found that I had used a 35 meg jpeg in the .kmz file.  I shrunk the jpeg down to below 3 megs (which Garmin apparently requires) and then re0did all the calibrating over GoogleEarth (not the easiest task).  Sent it to the GPS and it works fine.  The only thing is that I don't see any of the satellite imagery on the GPS that I see on GoogleEarth.  That's the whole reason why I created this custom map- to see actual satellite imagery on my map.  Any ideas why it isn't showing on my GPS?  I adjust the transparency to where it blended in well in GoogleEarth before sending it over.

My bad.  I was referring to the app.
I'm considering these MacTopo DVD's to use along with MacGPS Pro.  I need to find out if I can export sections of the maps to use with my Garmin.
Any Mac user's out there using these along with MacGPS Pro?

Would these maps be good to work with?  Not a bad price.  I actually have MacGPS Pro as well.

This looks interesting, although it's strictly for Windows:

I suppose I could install it on my Windows PC and load it to my Oregon 450 with the PC.

How does one remove the downloaded imagery in Base Camp?  Where is it stored?

Checked the forum and others seem to have the same complaint.  GoogleEarth is so much better than what I'm seeing with Birdseye View.  I love the detail of some sections, but most of the imagery is useless.  Unless I'm missing something, I'd rather overlay GoogleEarth with my maps, at least for now.  Any suggestions?

All downloaded.  Problem is, is that when I zoom in, much of the imagery turns black and white.  When I zoom back out, I can see the colors.  There's just a section which I can see as very detailed in real color.  But most of the imagery is colorless and no real detail.

You have a 16 gig card in your Oregon?  I thought there's a 4 gig limit?

Downloading some of that imagery now.  Looks like there is a limit on how much you can actually load.  Isn't there a way to get those images on the SD card?  Or is it the algorithm and how much can actually be used?  It's painfully slow in downloading.  I'm curious as to what quality I'll get.  I'll report back.

Actually, I had on order the Birdseye disc but then cancelled when I heard the quality isn't that good.  I think I will try before buying.  Thanks for that suggestion.

Now that I have some good Topo maps on my GPS, I'd like to create some custom maps layered with satellite imagery from GoogleEarth.  First of all, how do I "extract' sections of map to create a jpeg image?  I'm using a Mac with Garmin Road Trip and Base Camp.  Then, what is the best way to layer both together and calibrate it for accuracy?  Any help and direction would be greatly appreciated.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Re: Ibycus maps and Macs

I am now using MapInstall on the Ibyscus maps but it is painfully slow zooming in to try to select what sections I want to load.  Terribly slow- almost unusable.
Things now have speeded up much more.  I'm now viewing the loaded section of Ibyscus maps on my device.  I can see already that there is more detail than my Canada Topo by Garmin.  All-in-all, that procedure was totally painless.  No need for Windows.  Install went perfect, actually.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Re: Ibycus maps and Macs

Got the entire map file.  I notice that it is a .gmapi extension unlike the already installed maps I have on my Mac with a .gmap externsion.  It's the very same icon.  How would I get either Base Camp to recognize it?  I put it in the same folder in which my other maps reside.
Update- I started up Garmin MapManager and let it do its thing.  It installed the map in the correct folder with the same .gmap extension as the others.  RoadTrip handles the Ibyscus Topo much better than Base Camp, showing much more detail.  I wonder why Base Camp doesn't handle it as well.
