Title: are aerial maps available for 60Cx
Post by: jsrinhsv on December 30, 2010, 03:38:51 PM
Can I make a custom map from Goggle Earth that can be converted to a file usable by Map Source?  or is there another way to get a map showing aerial views in lieu of topo.  MS is flat, and elevation changes do not really help much.

No compatibility with "custom maps" (.kmz files) on these older models. The only possibilities would be MOAGU or Mapwel, and they're clever but still kind of awkward hacks.

If this is important to you, consider one of the new models that supports BirdsEye and Custom maps.

I believe about two years ago someone made a utility (or procedure) for converting a raster image into a vector waypoint mapset.  I never tried it as I have one of the newer GPSr which can display raster images.

In the long run, I think you would be happier saving for one of these units.  There were some fairly good sales for Black Friday.  Likely to be some more this spring.

Boyd's got it - MOAGU.

YEP.  Your are right.

Mapwel also has one-click vectorization of images: http://mapwel.eu/autovector/hw_autovector.html

But really, both of these programs are hacks to trick the GPS into doing something it wasn't designed for. If this is important for you, I think you'll eventually want one of the new models. You would need a new model to use BirdsEye for example.
