I also think the Oregon x50 are the best GPS currently available. I could write a long review, but everything you could ever want to know about them can be found here: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Versions+x50

Garmin Oregon 450 or 550 are best in class! 450 is only unit under $300.

Hello PineStump! I use a 16GB Patriot SD in my 550t and an 8GB Patriot SD in my 450, and have had zero issues with either!

Look at the different settings between "Geocaching" and the other profiles, then you can make you own profiles with settings just the way you want them...

So if I go for the Oregon 450, which only has basemaps. Can I download maps on this site for the cities, topo etc. or do I need to purchase additional software?

Use them directly from this site! Any that end in .img are good to go for the Oregon Series!

I have an Oregon 450 with a nearly full 8GB MicroSD and all maps ready properly.

My GF has the Oregon 550t with a 16GB MicroSD, and also has no trouble reading the maps installed, which amount to much more than 4GB :)

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Re: Micro SD Card

TAZ, Garmin customer support has been nearly, well, actually, completely worthless thus far, in my experience.

It does sound like you may not have the card seated securely in the unit. I would also suggest trying an external card reader if you continue to have trouble reading it in the unit after reseating the card.

Let us know!

What Garmin GPSr are you using?

When you plug it into the PC (or MAC?), can you see the GPSr AND the SD card separately in Explorer?

Have you tried using This: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3291

Have the Oregon 300 & 400, Girlfriend just snagged a 550, and I still can't pass up this deal! Love the 450! My new Favorite :-)

BTW, I am using a Patriot Memory 8GB SDHC in my 450, and my GF using a 16GB Patriot SDHC in her 550, both work flawlessly! :-)
