Hi All

Is there a tutorial available for combing a Garmin GMAPSUPP.img file with a transparent topo, for example? I had a quick search and couldn't find one.

When I insert the GMAPSUPP into sendmap20, I can see the list of img files, but fail to see how i can save them out for use in mapsettoolkit.

Regards

Thanks. The map creator has not been active for awhile. Will try. Is the a way for the user to check the transperancy element?
I am using an eTrex Legend HCx.
How about the ASTER-GDEM data? Is it more accurate than the that provided by SRTM?

Thanks for this.

I have had a real issue with mapsource on my new vista machine. Will basecamp fill the place?

By the way, this is all helping me for my long saved and planned trip to Gunni and Crested Butte

Hi

Now have BaseCamp installed and looks great. I assume that it will take all of the exe files found here. Is there any difference in that process to MapSource?

Thank you
#5
yes. Just downloading it now. For the adventure minded, which I assume is the majority of us, it looks the goods.

Thanks

Yes. Sorry my mistake the version i have is 6.15.7. Yep tried to install as an administrato with the spaste shortcut technique to no avail. Installed without issue on my old xp system.
i am new to this, is BaseCamp an alternative software to MapSource?
#7
thanks for that. Just doesn't seem like I can install mapsource on my vista OS. It launches the install shield and then nothing........really frustrating. Any work-around for this? Are there any alternatives to mapsource?

Hi there

I have a mapsource v6.13.7 and am intalling from disk to my vista com. The install shield runs and then nothing.got fed up trying so installed traing center with no issue; however it can't find my eTrex Legend HCx. The warning message says " Some devices were found; however none have the necessary capabilities.".

i downloaded the ANT version...would tha be the issue?

What you say is probably true and as a newbie to all this, I'll take your word for it as I have no knowledge or understanding of how these these are put together. All I know is this is by far the best Thailand topo ma available. From what I know Garmin do not even offer a commercial map. On the trails I ride, I have not come across anything misleading so yep, a good start.

One thing on the transperancy, when I send the topo to my gps my base map is obscured.. I also tried to combine my Thailand road map with the topo using sendmap20 with the result not the expected one.

Hi All

I couldn't find where to upload these maps. Check out the site this guy has done amazing work with the ASTER-GDEM data that was released last year. 10M contours.

http://maps.three15.org/node/12

He also has SRTM maps.

Pretty impressive and they are areas not on the main drop down lists.

The only issue seems to be that the maps are not transparent. Ok if you know your geo landmarks and don't rely on the roads.

Hi All

Are the raw image files available for most of these maps? I see many of them are exe for mapsource. Generally, I use sendmap20 to send my eTrex.

If not I will install Mapsource.

Thanks
