Are you saying - take the newly updated card (from mapsource) out of the GPS, put it in the computer and transfer the maps from the previous card to it? I know when you use mapsource to transfer new data it wipes out the old, won't that happen in a micro sd card to micro sd card transfer? will the GPS read the old and new data?

Okay I have been able to create a mapset on Mapsource with all the recent maps I have and installed it to my 60cx. Then I remembered I had several Montana road maps on a micro card I had used earlier after I got the GPS. They are no longer available on GPS file depot but when I put that card in the gps I can see them. Now I can't figure out how to get them from the card into mapsource so I can put them in my new mapset and upload all into the GPS.  I couldn't see how to do this in the tutorials but it might be there. On the computer they read gmapsupp ,  523,744 kb  ,Disc image file (I moved a copy to a document file) I am using Win 7 but they are still on the card too.

Okay I am going to go back to MapSource and give it a try. I'm not sure what version it is but I don't see how I can do much worse than what I have going on now.

I tried to select more than one map from the list on MapInstall but it only shows that it is going to install one (at a time). I can't figure out how to get the other two onto the list to install.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / GPS 60cx and Basecamp
October 29, 2013, 01:49:40 PM
I am struggling with Basecamp, I can load maps onto my 60cx from Mapinstall but when they load they seem to wipe out or cover up any map that was on there previously. I thought if I created a mapset in Basecamp (like the old Mapsource did) I could transfer it to the 60cx but I can not figure out how to do that. I have tried the "show all"  and turning the declutter after I load new maps but can't seem to find the other maps that were there previously. Do I need to get the GPS away from home/computer to see the other maps?

General Discussion / MT Landowner Map 2013 (Cadastral) Map
September 18, 2013, 02:37:02 PM
On your site it states the subject map is free if - and quote: This map is still free but now hosted on it's own website! Please visit http://gpsmapsmontana.com/ to download the installer file: I visited the site and do not see that as on option. I do see a purchase option. Am I missing the free installer file?

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Re: GPSMAP 60Cx
September 05, 2012, 08:05:36 PM
When I first downloaded the Montana Cadastral I hadn't downloaded "My trails" yet. The mt Cadastral file ended up in a file in "my Documents" not the Programs Garmin file where "My trails" downloded into. That is why Mt Cadastral didn't show up on the drop down. I deleted the origianl download and downloaded it into the programs file and now I have transferred it to the GPS. Thank you for your time and getting me on the right track.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Re: GPSMAP 60Cx

Yes I saw that. The problem is the dropdown that appears on the version of Mapsource I downloaded gives me the choice "no Map" Global Map" and "my trails". I got Mapsource to recognize my GPS and it pulled off my waypoints and tracks, but none of the maps on the card. I tried dragging the cadstral map onto the card when it was out of the GPS but the GPS does not recognize it when I put it back in. From other sites (blogs) it seems I have to buy a map from Garmin to get mapsource or Basecamp activated and I really don't need any they have.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / GPSMAP 60Cx
September 03, 2012, 08:53:48 PM
I have downloaded maps from this site in the past and installed them on my 60 Cx ( micro sd card 1 GB) using mapsource. I thought basemap was the new replacement for mapsource and I downloaded it. I couldn't figure out how to get it (Basemap) to load the new downloaded map (Montana Cadastral) .After that I couldn't find mapsource on my 64 bit windows 7 computer so I downloaded it again from Garmin now I can figure out how to get maps on either Mapsource or Basecamp to be able to transfer to my GPS. I need to be retrained I guess I have used the forum in the past with success.

Map Making Support / lake maps
February 12, 2010, 02:19:06 PM
You are right about the data being hard to find. I found one paper map that could be fit into a * 1/2" X 11" copy and I scanned it and saved it as a bitmap document, the lake has the same basic shape as on the GPS map but i can't see the lat. & long.. I was wondering if this has any use? I am also working with the Bureau of Reclamation and the Corps on Engineers to see if they have the data. The Bureau Rec has paper that they say they are going to convert to digital later this year will that be of any use?

Map Making Support / lake maps
January 26, 2010, 03:10:43 PM
:) Okay thank you for explaining the difference between a segment and a map I tried a google search and looked on the Garmin site but couldn't figure it out. This might not be the correct forum but does anyone know of any water contour map sources, other than the Garmin ones, for my GPS, theirs doesn't cover several of the lakes I fish?

GPSr Units / Re: Garmin 60CX 2 GB Card

:) I have followed your step by step instuctions and see the check boxes, you have to hit the down arrow to get the maps to show as checked (one at a time) but I figured that part out. In the meantime I noticed that one of the maps (Mt Landowner topo) had been updated so I decided to load the updated version and create a new mapset on mapsource. I also found a new map (mt trails) so I made a new mapset (6 maps) and loaded it onto the GPS (2 GB card). This mapset was 300 maps and 511.3 Mb and when the transfer was complete I checked the card on the GPS and there are 511.3 Mb's, so apparently all the data transfered this time. I looked at another forum to see about limits on the number of maps that can be transferred and that post said 2025 (or so) segments was the limit, I assume a segment equals a map (for future reference)?? I will now assume all my maps are on the GPS and not worry about the original post I made. Thanks to all!

On my 60cx when I follow your instructions I don't get a series of check boxes I get options that start with "restore Defaults" and has options like "show all" "show none", Hide/show my maps that I installed from GPSFileDepot. When I tell it to show one of the maps it takes me back to the map screen and then the map is unchecked on that page. I assume that means it won't show that map anymore until I go back and click on "show" or maybe I have it backwards?  It is confusing to a new user like me. I took the GPS fishing yesterday and came home and looked in detail at the maps on the Mapsource program and they seemed to be what I saw on the trip on the GPS. I also found the "Declutter" option on the GPS but I'm not sure what it does. It does say "declutter" in the lower left corner of the map page when I pick that option.

I have looked all over the menus but can't seem to find the Declutter option I also hate to admit it but I can't figure out how to just get one map to show. I can get none to show but seem to get lost after that. I'm not sure what happens when you check or uncheck a map on the map page either. I do know how to get out to the 200 mile view though.

Okay, thank you for that information. Before I loaded any maps on micro sd cards I could see some of the highways near my home on the GPS Map and I assumed it was the basemap that was showing those roads ( I assumed the 1Gb card that came with the unit was blank). I modified the 1st reply I made to the first response I got on my post and stated that I transfered the mapset again to a smaller card to see if that made any difference.
