You might look into getting some .gpx tracks that you can make into a transparent overlay map to use with your download. If Garmin's 24k TOPO is missing as many trails out there as it does out West, you can then use it with that product when that comes out.

I'm very new at all this - is there a tutorail on how I can make a map of trails that I hike?  But I am still more interested in an electronic version of the papermaps that I use when I hike that have all the hiking trails on them.

thanks.

thanks - since I'm not seeing a letter drive I'm guessing I did not install the sd card correctly.  Will check that.

Hi,

I've downloaded the NE US Topo Part 1 but as far as I can see it does not have hiking trails on the maps.  Northeast 24K is not yet available from Garmin. I usually hike in areas that are not part of the US National Parks - so that map won't work for me either.

Is there a map available that has hiking trails in NY and VT - that are not necessarily part of the National Parks?

Thanks.

thanks for the tips.

Couple more questions:

1.  When hiking I want to use the topo map; when biking the CN. Do you disable Topo map when biking, and vice versa when hiking?

2. How do you know if the sd card is being used?  I looked at the Garmin drive in Windws Exploere properties and only saw 900 meg, which I'm guessing is the internal built in memory.  Also - how do I direct maps to the sd card?

Thanks again for all the help.

ok - I reloaded CN again and now I have it with the original map. NE US Topo is gone.  how do I get both of them to be on the device?  they are both on mapsource.

thanks.

how do I wipe out the card?

also - when I use mapsource - how do I know it's loading onto the sd card?

thanks.

Hi ,
I'm just loading up my new Dakota 20.  I installed the City Nav NT successfully using the mapsource program.  I could see it on the Dakota.  Since the US Topo 24K is not available for the Northeast, I loaded the NE Topo 1 from this site - using mapsource and transferring to the device.  Now when I go into the Dakota I see the NE US Topo 1 and the WW Basemap nr.  I reloaded the City Nav again but still don't see it.  I also install an SD card into the unit.  How do I get both the City Nav and US Topo 1 maps to be enabled?

Thanks.
