Hello folks,
I have a Garmin Quest given to me by my nephew. Accessories but no software disc.
I want to put a topo map on Quest, but want to backup the original map first.
How can I do this? I have BootCamp, (prefered) and MapSource.
Thanks,
Harry
First, I think you mean Basecamp, not Bootcamp. :) I would use Mapsource, since that is the software the Quest was designed for. Basecamp was released much later. It will probably work, but I think Mapsource will be more compatible.
Have not used a Quest myself, but I used to have a StreetPilot 2620 which was somewhat similar. These old devices do not support USB mass storage mode like newer Garmin devices. AFAIK the only way to communicate with the Quest is via Mapsource. If you run Mapsource, try using the "Receive from Device" function and see if it allows you to receive whatever maps are installed. If not, then I don't think you will be able to copy them. This device was designed on the assumption that you already have the maps on your computer, and will send them TO the Quest.
It should have a basemap permanently installed, and that cannot be deleted so there's no worry there. The memory is pretty small on this device, so that will limit how many maps you can install (115MB).
Here's Garmin's product page, user manual and a review from gpsinformation.net

Thanks Boyd,
Sorry for the delayed reply. Sleep disorder, went fishing, didn't get an email about a reply to my question.
I'll will look into this some more, but it looks like I will have more questions.
